As promised, the Royal Palace was a highlight of the day. This palace is 2x larger than Buckingham Palace with over 3,400 rooms and at one time hosted the royal family and their entire court. Today no one lives there (what a waste!) and it is a museum which up to 2 weeks ago did not allow photos. But we got plenty to show you!!!
Side note: King Philip V commissioned the building of the Royal Palace, but it was King Charles III who was well known from bringing paved streets and flushing toilets to Spain. So imagine, back in the day, they had all those rooms and no toilets! Now that’s a waste! Pun intended.
The royal staircase is made out of a single slab of marble.
Hall of columns - tapestry was becoming a new art form. Easier way for collectors to travel - roll up and go! And it was practical too as it serves as drapery to keep cold windows covered.
Banquet hall - table is just for museum showing. Normal table large enough to seat 144 people.
Check out what they did in the Chapel room! It has 4 statues around entryway with a (not so) subtle reference to Jehovah’s 4 cardinal attributes: love (man child), justice (bull), wisdom (eagle), power (lion). It would have been missed by the average tourist - but not this group!
Crown: Just a symbol (aren’t they all). It has never been worn by anyone (ok so then, why?)

Entire room of porcelain! Must have had a lot left over after installing the toilets 😁
